Water damage emergency

Water damage? Do this first

Every minute counts. These steps protect your family and your home while help is on the way.

  1. Safety firstGet everyone out of the wet area. Don't walk through standing water if electricity may be nearby, and stay away from outlets, wiring and the electrical panel. If a ceiling is sagging with water, stay out.
  2. Shut off the main waterFind the main valve where the line enters your home: basement, utility room, crawlspace, near the water meter, or an outdoor box. A round handle turns clockwise until it stops. A lever handle turns a quarter turn so it sits crosswise to the pipe. Can't find it or it won't turn? Call your water utility.
  3. Drain the linesWith the main off, open a low faucet and a high faucet so the water left in the pipes drains out and the pressure drops.
  4. Cut the power, only if it's safeIf the panel is dry and you can reach it without stepping in water, switch off the breakers for the wet area. If the panel is wet or water is near it, don't touch it. Call your utility or an electrician. If you smell gas or see sparks, leave and call 911.
  5. Call us nowCall or text (203) 491-4779. The sooner the water is out and the area is drying, the less damage and the lower the mold risk. Mold can start in 24 to 48 hours.
  6. Take photos, call your insuranceShoot video and photos of the damage and your belongings before you move anything. Tell your insurance company as soon as you can.
  7. Save what you safely canLift furniture off wet carpet, pull up small rugs and move valuables and electronics somewhere dry. Open windows for air if the weather allows.

Don't do this

  • Don't use a household vacuum on water.
  • Don't turn on appliances or ceiling lights while standing in water or under a wet ceiling.
  • Don't wait to see if it dries on its own.
  • Don't paint or cover over mold. It has to be cleaned and dried first.
  • With sewage or floodwater, avoid contact and wash your hands well.
Our process

Step by step, for every service

Know exactly what to expect before we arrive.

We leave your crawlspace clean and looking new, whether the floor is dirt or concrete.

  1. Walk-through and photosWe check the whole space for standing water, moisture and damage, and show you what we find before we start.
  2. Clear it outStored items, debris, old plastic and leftover material are bagged and hauled away.
  3. Clean floor and wallsDirt or concrete, we clean the surfaces so the liner lays flat on a clean base.
  4. Check for moistureIf we see leaks, standing water or mold, we tell you and fix it or recommend the fix before covering anything.
  5. Lay the white linerA heavy-duty white vapor barrier goes down with seams overlapped and taped, and runs up the walls and piers.
  6. Wrap piers, final walk-throughWe wrap the piers, seal the edges and walk the space with you.
